Self Notes or Readymade Notes? The notetaking truth!

Introduction

Notetaking might be a gamechanger if you decide what’s the best way to take notes. Self-made notes or readymade notes?ย  A lot of students just re-write the slides given to them and call it a day.

Some write everything down without arranging them efficiently and just mug up everything. Try a different approach to note taking!

In this article we will talk about notetaking correctly and efficiently!

NOTE TAKING METHODS

Notetaking self-made notes

There are several different methods of note taking like Cornell note taking method, boxing, charting, etc. Which can turn your regular notes into something more efficient.

Making these types of notes during the lecture as a med student, might be difficult though. Try to redo those running notes into something efficient, go through them while revising for your test or exams. This might look time consuming, given that during tests and exam, there is a time limit and a lot of stress.

But once you get comfortable in one these methods you can easily redo your notes into something better. Notetaking might seem difficult in the beginning but over the time you’ll notice how you’re able to recall major part of your portion just after taking notes!

Notetaking readymade notes

Many students might disagree on using readymade notes, because:

  1. Not your own, hence difficult to navigate
  2. Hard to find?
  3. too many options
  4. everyone having different styles

But I disagree, if you look into it good enough you can easily find notes within an hour for all your subjects! That’s a year worth of hard work saved in a day!

I have notes for anatomy, physiology and other subjects already up on this website, try those! Or just search a little on telegram. Join groups with students pursing the same degree as you. They often share their own handwritten notes or notes provided by their teachers.

Another option is: there are several YouTube channels for anatomy and physiology, who teach through notes and then share them to their audience.

I think it is the best option, if you don’t want to waste time, trying to figure out what note taking method suites you the best and then trying to get habituated to it. Plus, having to redo all your work into it again daily.

NOTE TAKING METHODS

Why readymade notes are just better

  • notetaking is hectic and it saves the headache
  • smart work over hard work
  • simple and textbook based notes are easily available these days
  • no clutter, single pdf with your entire syllabus in it
  • gives you time to get ahead
Conclusion

I might be biased but go ahead and try both! Whatever suites you the best stick to it. Notetaking is an experimental task anyways. Spend just a little time in the beginning and then it gets smooth as butter.
